The Gospel Paraphrased

There are many fine translations of the Gospels readily available.  This paraphrase is not meant to replace them.  Rather the intention here is to offer a more contemporary rendering so that you can imaginatively translate the Gospel into your own situation.

This Sunday's Gospel Paraphrased

Jn 6: 51-58

Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the living bread which comes down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, they shall live forever and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, given for the life of the world.’
Then the Jews argued with each other saying, ‘How is this man going to give us his flesh to eat?’

So Jesus said to them, ‘Look, I am telling you the truth: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in you. The one who chews my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise that person up on the last day. For my flesh truly is food and my blood truly is drink. The one chewing on my flesh and drinking of my blood dwells in me and I in that person. As the living Father sent me, and as I live through the Father, so the one who chews on me will live through me. This is the bread that has come down from heaven. It is not like the manna your ancestors ate. They ate that and are now dead. The one chewing on this bread shall live forever.’
