The Gospel Paraphrased

There are many fine translations of the Gospels readily available.  This paraphrase is not meant to replace them.  Rather the intention here is to offer a more contemporary rendering so that you can imaginatively translate the Gospel into your own situation.

This Sunday's Gospel Paraphrased

Lk 21:25-28, 34-36

Jesus said to his disciples, ‘There will be signs in the sun, the moon and the stars and on earth; nations will be distressed, overcome with perplexity at the roaring of the sea and waves. People’s hearts will fail in fear and in looking out for all that is coming upon the earth, for the powers of heavens will be disturbed. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to happen, stand tall, raise your heads for your redemption is drawing near.

‘Take heed to yourselves. Watch yourselves. In case you get dissipated with overindulgence, with drunkenness and the cares of the world and the coming of the Son of Man catches you unawares. Like a snare it will come on all the peoples of the earth. Be alert, praying at all times that you may be found worthy to escape all these things that will happen and that you may stand before the Son of Man.’
