The Gospel Paraphrased

There are many fine translations of the Gospels readily available.  This paraphrase is not meant to replace them.  Rather the intention here is to offer a more contemporary rendering so that you can imaginatively translate the Gospel into your own situation.

This Sunday's Gospel Paraphrased

Mk 1:7-11

As John preached, he said, ‘Stronger than I is the one coming after me. Before him, I am not worthy even to stoop like a slave and undo his sandal strap. In very truth, while I have baptised you in water, he will baptise you in the Holy Spirit.’

And it happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. And immediately on coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending on him. There came a voice from heaven saying, ‘You are my Son, the beloved, in whom I delight.’
