The Gospel Paraphrased
There are many fine translations of the Gospels readily available. This paraphrase is not meant to replace them. Rather the intention here is to offer a more contemporary rendering so that you can imaginatively translate the Gospel into your own situation.
This Sunday's Gospel Paraphrased
Mark 9:37-43, 45, 47-48
Jesus said, ‘Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me.’ But John answered him, ‘Master! We saw someone who isn’t one of us casting out devils in your name and since he didn’t follow us, we forbade him doing it.’ But Jesus said, ‘No! You must not forbid him! For anyone who is able to perform a miracle in my name is hardly going to turn around and speak evil of me. For the one who is not against us is for us. For whoever gives so little as a cup of water in my name, because you belong to me, will not (and I am telling you this seriously) go unrewarded.
